I tutor Archaeology, Ancient History and Classical Civilisation. I have a First Class degree in Ancient History and Archaeology from the University of St Andrews, and an MA (Distinction) in Greek Archaeology and a PhD in Ancient History and Archaeology from the University of Birmingham. I am also a qualified teacher in Primary Education (University of Cumbria).
Apart from tutoring, I run my own business, Enrichment Through Archaeology, developing and delivering archaeology workshops for schools, and working with community groups on community archaeology projects. I also work for Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust, again developing and delivering workshops for schools.
I am married, have four children, and live in the beautiful Peak District.
I have experience of teaching all ages, from 5 years to 80 years! I have taught over the past 18 years with Derbyshire County Council, Birmingham City Council and the University of Derby in schools, FE colleges and Adult Education settings. I am now expanding my offer of 1-1 tutoring. My latest 1-1 student is now starting his undergraduate degree after achieving A levels in Classical Civilisation and Ancient History.
I teach through a variety of methods - reading, listening, watching, talking and doing - with lessons geared to the individual, to enable students with a range of learning styles to reach their full potential. If studying archaeology, I will as far as possible arrange for practical fieldwork experience and for all subjects will arrange museum visits, including where possible a look behind the scenes. I am friendly and approachable and very enthusiastic about my subjects!
