Hello! I will be starting a teacher training (PGCE) course at the University of Sussex to teach secondary mathematics in September, and am a chemistry graduate from the University of Manchester. I have a genuine passion for maths - I love solving puzzles and working through problems, and I believe developing the skill and enjoyment of problem-solving can help anyone improve their maths skills. I have an A in both GCSE and A Level mathematics.
I am friendly, supportive and patient, and really enjoy helping students develop their skills and confidence - it's why I am training to become a teacher!
Since September, I have been a teaching assistant at an independent school in London, supporting secondary school students in their maths and science lessons. This involved one-on-one time with students, helping them approach and work through problems in different ways.
I am a qualified TEFL teacher, and spent some time volunteering in Vietnam with teenagers and young adults, teaching English through workshops and soft-skills training sessions.
I also worked at the University of Brighton Students' Union for around 6 years, where I gained a training qualification and trained groups of University students and staff, so I'm very used to preparing engaging and interactive sessions, facilitating conversation and helping others develop their skills.
I hold an enhanced DBS certificate which is registered with the update service.
Before starting the tutoring, we will have a chat to discuss your needs - are there any particular areas you want to work on, or do you want some overall support with the content you're working on at school? Are you looking for a short-term boost or a longer-term support system? What do you hope to get out of the one-on-one tutor time?
I will be very happy to talk through your ideas and work out the best way in which I can support you.
*Please note that I am available for tutoring until the end of August, however I will not be available for long-term tutoring from September 2018 as I will be undertaking teacher training. However, if you would like any one off sessions or a short series of lessons to revise or learn a particular topic please feel free to get in touch.*
*As well as supporting GCSE mathematics up to level 9, I am also available to support potential teacher trainees with the professional skills tests.*
