Personal Description:

Hello, I'm Caroline - an experienced and passionate Dundee-based Doctor of English. I hold a first-class MA from Glasgow, a Masters from Oxford, and received my PhD in English Literature from the University of St Andrews, where I enjoyed several years working in student welfare as well as tutoring for the School of English. I am outgoing, approachable, enthusiastic about my subject, and very much look forward to working with you! If you need help in any of the following areas, I'm the right tutor for you:

essay writing
exam preparation
proofreading and editing
literary discussion/analysis
speaking or writing English as a foreign language
university applications (undergraduate and postgraduate).

I am happy to provide face-to-face tutorials in Dundee, along with online tutorials to students of any location.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught pupils of many different ages, abilities, class sizes and levels - from private, primary school English Language through to degree-level English Literature. Having taught in both Britain and France, for children with special needs as well as adults of exceptional ability, I have a wide range of experience in terms of meeting individual student requirements. My work as a proof-reader and editor means I am well-placed to provide practical guidance upon written English, in tandem with teaching on conceptual approaches to literature. Most importantly, I have an excellent record in producing demonstrable academic improvement in my students.

Tutoring Approach:

I provide patience, positivity, and a rigorous academic eye for my students, translating my love of literature into tutorials that will encourage your confidence and boost your enjoyment of the subject. My focus is upon guidance and enhancement as opposed to lecturing – I see it as vital that personal, original responses to a work are fostered rather than imposed. I work with my students to generate a full understanding of the assessment process and how to excel within it, using a one-on-one, Oxford-style tutorial model. Together we construct personalised, practical, and achievable learning targets based on the intersection between course requirements and your own interests. This produces a results-oriented and pleasurable learning experience, designed to play to your strengths.
