I am an award-winning published author, translator and EFL teacher who loves working with language and helping others achieve their goals
I have been teaching private students since 1982. I have worked in language schools in Brazil and Russia; now I focus on one to one advanced learners. I have worked with students of many different ages, levels and nationalities, working with oral, comprehension, reading and writing skills.
I have a warm and empathetic approach. Having studied several languages myself (French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Russian), I appreciate the difficulties that can arise and the need for motivation. I am also aware of the specific difficulties that English can present. First I ensure I understand what the student would like to achieve and I arrange my lessons accordingly. At the advanced level, I suggest materials that engage the student (for example I had an Eritrean student who fell in love with Alice in Wonderland, so we worked through that). I am also very happy to work with any materials the student brings to the lessons. Please note that for cancellations within 24 hours of a lesson's commencement I charge the full fee for the lesson.
