I am a book and film fanatic. I have taught Secondary School and have edited and published books by various award-winning authors. I am conscientious, encouraging and help to build confidence. I understand the importance of how to approach the subject and guide students in their development.
I have over 12 years experience teaching English Language and Literature to pupils aged 11 to 16. I possess experience teaching exam technique to Year 10 and 11 groups. I have been a Lead Moderator of Key Stage 3 marking, created and adapted lessons to suit pupil's needs and successfully guiding pupils of varied abilities toward the GCSE in English Language and Literature. I ran the school debating club for four years, as well as taught special after-school booster sessions for pupils who required additional help. I have also taught Media Studies, which requires many of the same skills of analysis as the English Literature Component.
I will use the first lesson to identify areas that require support. I recognise that each pupil will have their own learning style and I will build a plan of study, involving the pupil in every step. I aim to assist pupils to develop their analytical skills, which is the key to understanding and enjoying the subject. I place an emphasis pupils learning to identify appropriate information within a fiction or non-fiction text. I also place an emphasis on writing skills, which are key to conveying meaning and clarity of thought.
