A passionate and determined 'Head of English' at a South-East London secondary school, my track record of success speaks for itself. I take pride in bringing the study of English Language and English Literature to life and offer a friendly, informed, bespoke approach to secure students' increased progress and attainment in GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature. I look to use students' own passions and interests to tailor tutoring sessions to each individual. Depending upon availability, I am happy to tutor students at evenings and weekends; I am also keen to support students during half-term breaks and real or mock examination seasons. Tutoring sessions will normally be just one hour long, but I am happy to offer longer sessions according to parents' and tutees' wishes.
I have worked in secondary schools as both an English Teacher and Head of Department over the last seven years and have a proven track record of excellent examination results for students of all backgrounds and abilities; my English Department was shortlisted for a 2017 'TES Teaching Award' for department of the year. I am confident in supporting students pushing for the very highest grades at 8/9 (A*/A**), all the way through to students looking to secure their success at grade 4 (C). I am an experienced AQA examiner and have worked for the exam board for five years; this experience positively impacts my practice as a teacher, tutor and school leader.
It is important that students feel confident and comfortable in their work with their tutor and I look to work closely with tutees and parents to diagnose the specific needs of tutees before putting together a bespoke improvement plan with very clear, measurable and achievable targets. I use my vast experience as both a classroom practitioner and an examiner - alongside my extensive bank of resources - to tailor tutoring programmes to each student's specific requirements and needs.
