Personal Description:

I am a PhD-educated, qualified teacher and examiner for chemistry with an outstanding track record of improving grades and confidence. My extensive subject knowledge and experience allow me to teach 'beyond the syllabus', giving students the deeper understanding essential for top grades.

With examining experience for GCSE, A level and International Baccalaureate Diploma chemistry, I understand the strategies needed for exam success and how to improve exam technique. Each year, on average over 80 % of my students achieve top grades and successfully gain entry to competitive degree programmes (such as medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine) at world-class universities.

I work as a full-time professional tutor, which means I am 100 % committed to my students' success and can guarantee a service that is professional, reliable and expert.

All resources (notes, PowerPoints and booklets of past paper questions) are provided at no additional cost.

Tutoring Experience:

My professional experience has been developed through my roles as a qualified teacher of science, a private tutor of chemistry from school level to degree level, and as an examiner for GCSE, A level and International Baccalaureate Diploma chemistry. As a full-time professional online tutor, I have delivered over 3,000 hours' tuition to students in 14 countries.

I have also enjoyed a successful career running a high-tech university spinout company, which gave me the real-world experience necessary to bring chemistry to life and teach beyond the textbook.

Thanks to my unique science and business background, I understand the skills needed for success after the classroom and can give useful advice on careers, and UCAS personal statements and interviews.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach ensures understanding of concepts is completely secure first, with no knowledge gaps or misconceptions, before moving on to exam questions and exam technique. As much as possible, I will use videos, animations and quizzes to help bring concepts to life.

I provide resources and strategies that will improve both theoretical understanding and exam performance. I will also give very detailed feedback designed to help each student focus on the areas that will bring most improvement.

When preparing for exams, I set timed exercises and full papers that I will mark and provide feedback on. This will help improve exam technique, avoid common exam mistakes, and give better answers.

To unlock the top grades, we will work through my database of ‘stretch and challenge’ questions – these are the toughest questions designed specifically for A* students.
