My name is Carina. I live in a small village in Devon with my husband and two children. I am a secondary school teacher, teaching English, Drama and Media Studies. When I am not teaching I enjoy managing our small-holding (sheep and chickens) and riding my horse.
I have been a teacher of English in secondary schools for over thirty years. I taught in comprehensive schools in Essex and Outer London for fourteen years before re-locating to Devon where I have also taught in comprehensive schools. My GCSE and A level students have always achieved good results because I know how to engage them and inspire them to want to achieve. I have worked with students of all abilities from years 7-13 and have plenty of experience with A level students, having been a deputy and head of sixth form for 15 years.
Throughout my career I have successfully tutored many students, right through from year 5 and 6 pupils needing literacy support up to English Language and Literature GCSE and English Literature A Level students.
I really enjoy one-to-one tutoring because I can teach to a student's precise needs. It is also an opportunity to build positive relationships with individual students and help them to gain confidence in themselves and their ability. My teaching style is relaxed and friendly and based on showing students what they can do, not what they can't. It is also based on a two-way dialogue to enable the student to assess their own learning needs in addition to my assessment.
