Hello, I've previously been Head of English in a high performing private school in north London and have also worked as a Lead Practitioner and Head of Year for a chain of leading academies. I grew up in Edinburgh and Newcastle, and have been teaching for over 17 years, with over 22 years of experience in the Education sector. I am an Assistant Principal at my school, where I have worked for 8 years.

My students make excellent progress, both at work and through private tuition. I have helped students achieve grades 7-9, when predicted several grades lower. I also specialise in ensuring KS2 students hit those important end of KS targets. At KS2, I had a student move from L4 to 6 in less than six months. At KS4, all my clients have received grade 6+, with all of them making several grades of progress in less than 1 year.

Tutoring Experience

I became a student tutor whilst at university in York, and then went on to do my English PGCE at Cambridge University. I have recently completed my MA in Contemporary Literature and have now embarked on a PhD in Education. I am available to tutor English from KS2-5 and I'm also available to tutor for the 11+ and 13+ entrance exams in English/Verbal Reasoning, with previous students getting into top private and grammar schools such as Dulwich, St. Paul’s, Sevenoaks, Queen Elizabeth and Eltham.

At work, I have been responsible for delivering and developing teacher training within my department, ensuring teachers teach outstanding lessons and ensuring student progress.

Tutoring Approach

I am friendly, approachable and committed to my students' success. I believe tutoring and assessment go hand in hand. It is important for the student to get regular feedback on how they are progressing, and any areas they need to improve in. I use exam papers and questions, as well as tutoring on topics outside the exam papers which will help students gain the top grades in their examinations.
