I have been tutoring students in GCSE science and A level Biology since I was completing my undergraduate degree in 2014. I subsequently became a teacher for a number of years, and am currently completing a master's degree in genetics. The more I learn myself, the more I miss helping students learn about the subject I love.
I have been a secondary school teacher for a number of years, and have taught all three sciences at Key Stages 3 and 4, Biology at A-level, and Level 3 BTEC Applied Science. During this time I would run extra revision sessions for GCSE students in the run up to exams, and provided weekly lunchtime sessions for A-level students which focused on material outside of the spec. This is necessary for students to reach the highest grades, but was also useful for students who had a greater interest in the subject and were considering reading a biology-related subject at university.
During my training, I taught Level 3 Health and Social Care to a group of NHS Cadets, and an Access to Higher Education course in Healthcare to 2 groups of adult learners.
Private tutoring gives the opportunity to address a student's individual barriers to learning, and overcome them in an environment without pressure. I will help students gain a comprehensive understanding of the topic, show them how to analyse a question and answer it appropriately, and ensure that they enter the exams with confidence. Every student is unique and many require help finding their own ways of revising, and I will use my experience with a range of learners from Year 7 students to postgraduates to help the student find theirs.
