Personal Description:

From September 2017- June 2018 I completed a graduate diploma in law at the University of West England achieving a pass with distinction. In September 2018 I will undertake a Bar Practice Training Course, my final preparations before becoming a trainee barrister in September 2019.

In June 2016 I graduated from the University of Oxford where I studied History. In my first year at Oxford I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I can therefore understand some of the difficulties students may have with writing style, spelling and grammar.

Despite this, I graduated with an average of 68%, scoring 75% in my final thesis. At university I experienced many one on one tutorials with expert tutors in their field and so have had a great insight into the value of discussion and one on one teaching. At school I studied Maths (A-level), Chemistry (A-level) and Physics (AS), in addition to history, I therefore feel qualified to teach students in a variety of subjects, the sciences as well as the arts. During university I was captain of my college rowing team and so have had a huge amount of experience coaching and encouraging my peers.

Tutoring Experience:

Since January 2018 I have been working as a tutor for three pupils who I see on a weekly basis. I have taught science, maths and history. From September 2016 till June 2017 I worked as a science and English tutor for two GCSE students.

During the Summer of 2016 I worked for the National Citizenship Service as a Senior mentor. This involved leading a group of 10 16-year olds through outdoor and classroom based activities for 18 days. This has helped me to practice engaging teenagers in a fun and creative way to persuade them to take part in activities that have often pushed them mentally and physically.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the key to my role as a tutor is to give my tutees confidence. Most people I believe can blossom once they are given the time to articulate their ideas to someone who is listening. I enjoy a discussion based approach with my students, to encourage them to challenge their own, and others, accepted ideas. Discussion and articulation of ideas allows students to gain full comprehension of complex concepts.
