I have independently studied religion, philosophy, and ethics over the last ten years. I have acquired a successful Masters degree in Philosophy (specialising in Philosophy of Religion), and am currently about to enter into a PhD in the same field to gain a doctorate and essentially teach at university. I am hugely interested in religion, its validity and influence over the course of history, as well as morality, sociology, and politics. I have ran a debating club for students, participating in many myself across the Midlands. I also write philosophical articles which I post on my own website, and I am currently writing a non-fiction book which I aim to self-publish in 2019.
I am a fully qualified teacher with a PGCE qualification specialising in Humanities. I have taught in a comprehensive state school in Coventry - GCSE and A Level Religious Studies. I have most recently taught for 2 years in a non-selective Birmingham independent school - GCSE and A Level Religious Studies, as well as A Level Philosophy. My students acquired 100% A*-B grades last year and I am anticipating the same again this year. At my most recent school I was appointed as Assistant Head of GCSE, as well as a Personal Tutor to over 20 students. Alongside pastoral support, I ran a debating club which supports students in critical thinking, articulation, and public speaking.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching young people and believe the best way to promote learning is to inspire, motivate, and generate genuine interest. I have a vast bank of lessons which I have created myself - over 50 topics taught for Religious Studies across varying examination boards for both GCSE and A Level. I enjoy active learning by incorporating technology, written activities, and challenge tasks, all whilst applying a strong focus on examination technique, specification requirement, and articulation. I ensure that every lesson is a progressive journey by invoking the use of Bloom's taxonomy to ensure learning objectives are clearly identified and achieved. I also am able to easily identify and adhere to different learning styles and learner needs.
I have been told that as a teacher I am extremely approachable, supportive, positive, pleasant, patient, and motivating, with a gentle aura and genuine passion for my subject.
