Personal Description:

I graduated from Cambridge University in English Literature in 2015, specialising in Tragedy, Shakespeare, Lyric, Visual Culture, and Practical Criticism. I am also a playwright, and have interest in Applied Theatre, having completed dramatic writing courses at theatres such as National Theatre. I have A-Levels in Drama and Theatre Studies, English Literature, and Philosophy, and an AS Level in English Language. I am hugely passionate about the subjects I teach, and am continually studying myself to hone my own craft and therefore knowledge and skills I can pass on to my students. I'm fun and patient, but will also challenge you as far as I deem appropriate to get the best out of you for your studies. I am also more than happy to help students with University Applications, and can particularly help with Oxbridge applications and interview preparations!

Tutoring Experience:

I have assisted several students in their University Applications, both writing personal statements and with interview skills. This has helped my students to achieve acceptance into some fantastic Universities. I also have experience marking essays and providing feedback for A-Level students, some of whom weren't sure what subjects they were passionate about or wanted to carry into further study before getting stuck into the subjects with my assistance. I have spent time in primary schools working with children from nursery age upwards, and have the skills and experience to work with younger children as well as young and older adults. I have been part of a reading scheme at a secondary school at which I assisted less able or disadvantaged girls in reading over one lunch time once a week. This was hugely rewarding as I was able to influence and observe a huge change in confidence and skills over the course of the scheme.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always begin by finding out as well as possible exactly what the student would like to get out of the tuition. This will often consist of tangible aims such as grades or admissions, but whatever it is, I will then be able to put together a bespoke plan for that student, in accordance with what I think will best help the individual student to achieves their goals. Everyone learns differently, so I will always do my best to find out how each individual student learns to the best of their potential and devise a plan based around this. I have always found that students produce the best ideas not when rammed with information, but when given a challenging platform upon which to discuss and think through their ideas. In this sense I will never 'give' my students the answers, but will push, challenge, and enquire further into their thoughts and ideas, so that these might develop in unique and intelligent theories that we can then work into whatever formal capacities are required of each them.
