I am a mother of two (23 & 19yrs) who has graduated from Glasgow University with a Post Graduate Teaching Degree in Primary Education. Prior to this I worked as a classroom assistant for children with special needs.

I changed my career from Strathclyde Police (16yrs), to follow my life long passion to teach children. I have a very pleasant, approachable and motivational manner when teaching (with motherly instincts) and can quickly develop a very positive relationship with pupils to make their learning fun and make them feel relaxed.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught various children on the Autism Spectrum, Downs Syndrome, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and children with emotional and behavioural problems. I have also taught children in Maths and Literacy, in small groups to further develop their individual learning.
My Skills/Qualification's:
I have excellent up to date knowledge of the new 'Curriculum for Excellence' in schools with my PGCE Teaching certificate from Glasgow University (2013). I also successfully completed an Open University course on Autism Spectrum, in addition to my BSc (Hons) in Social Policy, which covered child psychology, child development, primary school Maths, Literacy and Science topics.
I can use basic Sign Language, Makaton signage and I also speak a little Spanish. All obtained through night school in order to utilise at every opportunity to assist in children's learning.

I have also recently successfully completed 2 units of a Professional Development course in supporting individuals with Dyslexia in May 2016.

Tutoring Approach

As a tutor I assess, then address the child's individual needs. Discuss a planned approach with parents/carers to achieve a common goal, then tackle whatever learning 'hurdle' the pupil is experiencing, in order to boost their confidence and self esteem.
I believe in a fun, active and lively approach to lessons. I vary approaches to lessons depending on the personality of the pupil. I can include educational games with interactive websites using my ipad, as well as active literacy, maths, or any other primary subject required.
