I am a recent International Baccalaureate graduate, and an aspiring undergraduate. I currently hold offers from universities worldwide, and would love share my academic knowledge with you before I attend said universities. I enjoy helping people in general, in the past I have served as a charity shop volunteer and have served as a volunteer teaching assistant after completion of my high school diploma. I am adept at teaching a wide range of subjects although I particularly enjoy Biology and Geography subjects, due to my love of the environment, which has lead me to take up activities such as Duke of Edinburgh awards and even diving!
As mentioned I have served as a volunteer teaching assistant, after completion of my diploma. I did this for one month within my school's primary school. I helped teach year 3 students with a range of academic abilities and in each subject that primary school students are taught, including mandarin. This involved: handing out worksheets, printing, making displays, but most importantly helping to consolidate learning. I mostly worked one to one with students and occasionally in small groups with them. Undertaking Duke of Edinburgh I have served as a mandarin tutor to lower secondary school students as part of my service requirements, this I did throughout my 2 years undertaking the International Baccalaureate diploma.
My tutoring method involves allowing my students the freedom to first have a go at any work that I give them or any work that they have been given either ie by a teacher, after carefully explaining the task at hand. Then I try explaining the problem or task in a different or simpler way, If the child is still struggling I usually use visual aids to help them through the process, for example in maths I would use blocks for younger children, for older children I would write down the problem or task, split it up to make it more graspable and then I would give them an example on how to complete it. I would the allow the child to continue with their work, and correct them with the same method if they have yet to grasp the approach.
