This is how 2 referees rated Benedict:
I am a fully qualified teacher with a B.Sc (Hons) 2:1 degree in Chemistry and a Diploma in Education (Dip.ED) and also been awarded a Master of Science degree in Food Safety and Control that I pursued at South Bank University, London. In addition to these qualifications, I have been successful in obtaining the recognized European Computer Driving License (ECDL) that enables me to effectively incorporate IT into whatever I do. I have PGCE( Post Compulsory) qualification from University of Greenwich and registered as a member of the Institute for Learning.
I have three years teaching experience in both ‘O’ level General Science, and ‘A’ level Physics, Biology and Chemistry and teaching assistantship at the University of Cape Coast (Chemistry Dept.) in Ghana ; a two-year experience in private home tuition in addition to four years full-time teacher of Science/Chemistry and Tutor at two geographically different mainstream secondary schools in the UK with vastly different ratios of multi-cultural student populations. I have also lectured very successfully Level 3 Chemistry to AS/A2, BTEC Introductory L1, BTEC First L2, BTEC National Applied Science, Access to Biochemistry, Access to Teaching and handled teaching and learning responsibilities (TLR) with peer mentoring, curriculum management, subject coaching for five years at my current institution, Southwark College adding up to a 13 year teaching experience.
I also possess valuable placement experience in industrial/ pharmaceutical laboratories as technician/dispensing chemist performing routine analysis of drugs in capsules, pills, tablets, weight variations, preparation of mixtures, buffers, suspensions etc, supervision and laboratory management .
As a Food Safety specialist I have employed excellent food chemistry and analytical procedures and evaluative skills to make sound judgments and write reports that have improved production for some small scale food industries. My level of proficiency in both spoken and written English is high and commendable.
I have effectively taught the Science curriculum across levels one, two and three and progression routes and performance are clear to me. I have been on many different short Insets ranging from ‘Teaching Science to EAL students’ Active Learning, Diagnostic assessments, SENDA, ‘Differentiation’, ‘Behaviour Management’, ‘Raising Achievement in Schools’ to ‘Application of ICT in Science Teaching’ etc. I am also quite familiar with the OCR Cambridge/ Salters , AQA and Edexcel specification for GCSE, AS and A2 levels .
My student-centered lessons have mostly been well planned with learning objectives clearly stated and communicated; contents and varied learning activities well differentiated to ensure the motivation and interest of all levels of abilities. I have high expectations for all who sit in my lessons.
Through teacher training, I have obtained skills to monitor and assess students; setting ‘SMART’ targets- Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time related and that build on prior attainment. I have, frequently, used my students’ records that are diligently filed as a tool to make objective decisions for progress.
Be rest assured that you will get quality tuition and guidance into your academic success.
