I am a graduate in languages from a leading redbrick university. I am passionate about teaching and all things Spanish.
During year 3 of my university degree, I lived and worked in Madrid, developing my spoken and written Spanish to reach near-native level. I completed internships in two Spanish companies, during which I achieved an exceptional level of business Spanish and made strong Spanish friends with whom I regularly converse in Spanish.
I am often complimented by Spanish speakers on the accuracy of my grammar, as well as the extremely high standard of my pronunciation.
I achieved a high first class honours degree at university and a distinction in spoken Spanish.
I have tutored Spanish to a number of students at GCSE, A-Level and university level, all with overwhelmingly positive results. One student I tutored at GCSE level achieved three grades higher than she had been previously predicted by her school.
I worked for a year as a Spanish conversation and grammar assistant at a leading secondary school, providing one-on-one and group coaching to students between the ages of 11 and 18 on all aspects of the Spanish language. The school was extremely satisfied with the level of teaching I provided (see reference below).
Lessons to GCSE-level students are designed to incorporate a range of activities that are enjoyable, interesting and motivating while still focussed on the agreed objectives. Learning another language can be hard work but should still be fun!
Lessons for higher-level learners (A-level, university/post-university-level, those seeking business or recreational Spanish) are tailored specifically to students’ individual needs, incorporating grammar and listening skills, current affairs, conversation and business language.
I am absolutely passionate about language learning and most of my students agree that this comes across in my lessons and is a key factor in their excellent results.
DAVID, HEAD OF SPANISH, LEADING SECONDARY SCHOOL:
"Ben proved himself to be very professional, a keen listener and a very speedy learner in the complex, and not always instinctive, task of teaching young people. His subject knowledge, of the language and culture of contemporary Spanish, was fresh and very broad based. More than anything else, he was enthusiastic and handled classes and pupils with great confidence. He was supportive and encouraging, and alive to the pitfalls and possible confusions a learner can encounter. He worked with pupils from the whole age range 11 to 18, and built a strong rapport with all of them".
