Personal Description:

Hi, I'm Ben. I'm about to enter my third year as a PhD candidate working on an interdisciplinary project between English and Education. I am based at the University of the West of England where I am also a part-time lecturer. My personal interests include: running, reading, music, cinema and travel.

Tutoring Experience:

Prior to beginning my doctorate, I completed a PGCE (Primary Education) and taught in primary schools for five years, where I was also a subject lead. I subsequently worked as in Community Inclusion Support for young people with SEN through the charity KIDS. During my PhD, I have also worked part-time as a supply teacher in mainstream primary and secondary schools as well as in various SEN provisions including Referral Units and Resource Bases. Other educationally-based roles I have held in the past have included: Camp Counsellor with Camp America, Associate Tutor with **Contact Detail Removed**, and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a relaxed, supportive and friendly approach to tutoring and provide personally relevant schemes of work aimed specifically towards the student's primary interests, academic ability, and expected outcome(s). As of 2016, I have completed over twenty tutoring assignments successfully. I have a proven record of 'grade raising' and have also worked with A' Level and IB students on improving academic writing, study skills and interview technique prior to applying for undergraduate courses at Russell Group universities. I also offer support for students for whom English is not a first language (including written and academic English), and also provide a proof-reading service.
