Personal Description:

I have just finished studying English Literature at University and will be graduating with an upper class 2.1 grade division. I have a particular interest in Women's Writing, American fiction and Post War Literature; this subject of which I am researching for a dissertation. Studying at University level has given me a real passion and understanding of this subject and I am considering going into the teaching profession after I graduate. I feel that I am a caring and friendly person and work well with both young children and teenagers. I am willing to tutor either primary or secondary school children who struggle or need help with the subject and want to receive one to one tuition to improve both oral and written skills.

Tutoring Experience:

I have undergone work experience in both a local primary school and a nearby nursery school focusing on pre-school care. I also work within my Church youth clubs and crèches, organise youth outreach schemes within the community and partake in Summer Teams over the country reaching out to Primary School aged children and also Teenagers. I am considering a career in Teaching and feel that Tutoring would both be an insightful experience but also use my skills in communicating with children and help them improve within the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel English is a subject which is vital to all aspects of learning, on an academic level and also outside the classroom. Thus, I put an important emphasis on reading and recommend different novels and poetry suitable to the age of the student.
I would firstly assess where the weaknesses are within the student's abilities and proceed to target these areas first. I would pre-plan lessons focusing on their needs, whether that be comprehension, reading, grammar, oral communication or writing techniques. I feel that in a one to one teaching situation it is vital that the child feels comfortable to voice any concerns or worries about the subject and ask any questions. After the child improves in the weaker areas I would then focus on polishing and honing the skills that English demands.
