Personal Description:

I am a highly educated English specialist with experience on teaching on a variety of courses, from GCSE to lecturing at degree level. I offer help with course work, exam preparation and UCAS applications.

I have taught one-to-one and lectured in Further and Higher Education as well as working in the secondary and primary sector. I spent about four years working as an English teacher in Russia teaching exam preparation and general English. I currently work full time in a school and have DBS clearance through my job.

My Qualifications:

I have a Master's degree in English Literature from Durham University. A university that is ranked higher for English than Oxford and Cambridge. I studied at Durham with an award from the British Academy for academic excellence after obtaining a First as an undergraduate. I have a PGCE from Reading University and a CELTA which allowed to me work as an EFL teacher in Moscow, Russia.

Tutoring Experience:

After graduating I spent about four years working in Russia as an English specialist, helping students prepare for FCE, CAE and IELTS. I have worked for The British Council and The British International Business School who both stake their reputation on the teachers they employ, requiring a high degree of professionalism and commitment from their personnel.

I have lectured on the Cultural Studies degree (Combined Honours) at Anglia Ruskin University, and was module leader for a couple of the first year modules. My area of academic interest is the development of the novel from the 18th through to the 20th century, Dickens and Shakespeare.

I have lectured in Further education, teaching A level and GCSE. I have taught A level English language, Literature and combined. I spent a year working as curriculum leader of A level English Literature at the Rutland College. I am well versed with the current AQA syllabus.

I have also worked in secondary schools and primary schools. I worked briefly at The Peterborough School as supervisor of their Homework Club.

My specialty is GCSE, IB and A Level. I can also help with Undergraduate studies as well.

Tutoring Approach:

One-to-one teaching is about establishing a rapport with your student and a clear understanding of what would benefit the learner. My lessons will be tailored to meet the needs of the individual learner with a clear focus on the assessment criteria.

It is essential that learner knows what to write in accordance with the assessment objectives. I will ask the students to complete exam style assignments which we will assess and see where improvement is necessary. We will deconstruct the exam texts and arrive at a clear understanding of how to answer exam type questions.

I have a warm and friendly personality and possess a talent for getting the best out of my students, even those lacking confidence or motivation. I believe it is about discovering every student's potential and enabling them to achieve. I am enthusiastic about my subject and genuinely believe enthusiasm begets enthusiasm.

I have successfully moved students up by two or more grades.

I teach one-to-one in my own home. I can deliver lessons via Skype if you prefer. However, I don't drive, so travel to you is not possible unless you live withing a mile and of my home address.
