My name is Barney, I am a 21 year old graduate from LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). I am now working as a proffessional actor and am interested in passing on any knowledge I may have to young people who either have a keen interest in becoming proffesional actors or who simply enjoy the subject at the level they are studying. I recieved an A* at GCSE in Drama in 2007; and an A in Theatre Studies in 2009, I attended Warwick school before moving to London to attend Drama School and was lucky enough to attend one of the best in the country. I would be delighted to teach the practical side to drama as well as the academic.
In addition to the subjects listed I am also qualified to teach:
Teaching assistant - Warwick School 2009-2010
LAMDA Exams Tutor - London 2009-2012
GCSE and A-Levels
I would tutor for GCSE and A-Level by starting with looking at the texts they have to study and would want to know in the first session which exam board they were with so as to fufilll the correct criteria within the course. This may seem an obvious thing to say but it isnt that obvious to everyone and some of the older tutors arent aware of the diferent examining bodies at all. I often bring books/plays in for the pupil to read around the subject and although this soumds like a chore I will always pick pieces that I believe the pupil will enjoy themselves! As its no good trying to encourage independant learning on something they already have an aversion to. I would tend to set them a bit of prep work for each session usually a short essay or presentation of sorts so that we can discuss and debate their work in our individual sessions. I try and make it as much fun as possible as I am aware that these sessions are often on top of all the other work they have going on and also being relatively young myself I am not yet ready just to sit back and mark papers glumly! I believe that if a pupil is engaged with they learn far more.
LAMDA Exams/Audition Technique for Drama School
As a professional actor myself, I beleieve that I have a considerable practical knowledge on presenting yourself for auditions and examinations. I have done LAMDA Exams myself prior to drama school and I attended LAMDA (which I think tends to help), I hope to give pupils confidence and support in these sessions as so much of auditioning is getting over the pressure and nerves and just being yourself. Being yourself is hugely important! That confidence does however spring from good work to fall back on. I will work in depth on speeches for Drama School applicants and will also be able to advise on pieces that might suit them. Being young myself these are both processes that I have been through fairly recently, I have been on the other side of both LAMDA examining tables and Auditions for students and LAMDA and therefore feel I am well worth a visit!
Take care and good luck!
