Hello, I’m Barney and I graduated from Durham University in 2013 with a 1st class Master of Chemistry degree. I have a thirst for knowing how things work and since chemistry is all around us in our everyday lives, this inspired my passion to pursue it from GCSEs to A-levels and finally degree level. I will bring this passion into my teaching to not only get you the grade you want, but also allow you to enjoy the subject at the same time.
I live locally in Henley-on-Thames and will be able to drive to your home if you are within a 5-7 mile radius.
Outside of tutoring,
I am an international rower having rowed for Great Britain and am currently based at Leander Club in Henley. I have been rowing since I was 15 and have always had to balance my training with my schoolwork. This had made me an organised and efficient person with a strong work ethic which will come across in my tutoring style.
I have been providing private 1-on-1 tuition for over 4 years at both GCSE and A-Level. During this time I have tutored 18 students, all who have improved dramatically thanks to my teaching. With this experience I am able to successfully adapt my teaching style to all levels of academic ability, so whether chemistry comes quite naturally to you or it really is a struggle, I will be able to help.
The important thing to remember about tutoring is that I am there to help YOU achieve YOUR goals. Don’t be afraid to tell me what you want and I will do everything in my power to get you there. I am not your school teacher forcing information on you that you are not ready to digest yet, but more like a friend helping you out.
My approach to your tutoring is to start with an informal initial meeting, completely free of charge, where we discuss your goals, your problem areas, your nerves before exams, etc. From this I can go away and draw up the best approach for how to get the best out of you in our sessions. I believe that knowing what the examiners are looking for is important, so past papers and exam style questions will allow you to learn this. Chemistry can be daunting because there’s a lot of information to remember, but with my teaching I will help you to form an underlying understanding of the topics. Having a good understanding will make the whole process a lot easier.
I am happy to tutor you as much or as little as you want, whether that is every day, every week or every month. It’s up to you.
