Information About Barbara - Shifnal tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Barbara:
I am a 34 year old mother of 3. I am a qualified secondary school teacher and have passed the National Postgraduate award for Special Educational Needs as well as a Masters in Children with Autism. My recent dissertation was completed on the subject of autistic girls and has resulted in such positive feedback from the university professors that publication has been highly recommended.
I have 10 years teaching experience to date, all of which include teaching students in mainstream with special educational needs. I have worked with students with a wide range of special needs including (but not limited to): autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, hearing impairment, visual impairment, speech, language and communication needs
Alongside my classroom experience, I also have significant personal experience of supporting children with additional educational and medical needs to manage the demands of learning.
Every special needs child is different and therefore a different teaching strategy is needed. The relationship between myself and the student is central and I ensure I base what they need on what I learn from them and yourself. For that reason the initial session is always a meet and great in a relaxed setting in order to maximise the productivity of the relationship.
I find a approach of discussion is very powerful and often find that a balance of mentoring alongside learning is the most productive formula.
