Personal Description:

Maths and English tutor with over two years of experience. My students have gained admission to Hampton and King's College Wimbledon at 11+, and at 6th form they have gained admission to Brighton College, Highgate School and Kingston Grammar School.

I am dedicated to pursuing a career in academia--in particular I want to be a researcher specialising in the overlap between culture, politics and sociology. I am also a freelance artist working on commission, and have exhibited my work in Leeds and London. As such, I enjoy reading a wide variety of topics, including politics, philosophy, history, economics--anything that I think will be useful in understanding culture.

Throughout my life I have consistently achieved high academic standards, gaining 8 A*s and As at GCSE and 2A*s and an A at A level. During my time at Kingston Grammar School I held the art scholarship, which I gained through competition against other candidates on an exam. I gained a 1st on my undergraduate thesis, and enrolled at the top ranked art college in the UK, located in one of the country's top ten universities (Slade School of Fine Art, University College London). This autumn I will be starting a PhD in sociology at Univesity of Leeds.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over two years of experience teaching maths and English literature at A-level and GCSE as well as at primary and 11+ levels. I am represented by several tutoring agencies, who have provided me with training.

Tutoring Approach:

I think patience and understanding is important so one can know the student's individual method of learning. Being able to tailor lessons to the student's preferred method of learning is important for a relaxed atmosphere-- for example, forcing a student to who likes to digest information silently in his/her head to be vocal all the time will only cause resentment, which is not a good backdrop for learning.

I also strongly believe in clear and concise communication. Being able to express subject matter with clarity in a short space of time is the best way to make the logical structure of something as obvious as possible. Without standards of concision learning becomes long and tedious.
