I hold a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Oxford and have extensive experience teaching and tutoring mathematics; from school age to post-graduate level. I have always enjoyed explaining and teaching mathematics to others. My belief is that anyone can succeed at mathematics, given the right explanations and sufficient time and patience.
I have tutored privately, through Trefoil tutors, with students aged 8-14 years old. I have also tutored students at pre-bachelors and pre-masters level with Kaplan International College.
While studying for my PhD, I taught with Oxford Summer Courses and Universify Education. In both cases I was teaching students aged 14-18, with a focus on introducing talented students to university level mathematics. I also taught on pre-GCSE revision courses through the Universify Education charity.

My approach to teaching mathematics comes from my belief that anyone can succeed at the subject given suitable explanations, time, effort and patience. For students struggling with mathematics the subject can often feel like an all or nothing experience and being confronted with constant challenges can be disheartening. As a result, I think it is especially important to emphasise the fact that mathematics can be difficult and that even at research level, I regularly struggle with new concepts and methods.
In order to help students understand the topics at hand, I aim to use multiple avenues; examples, practice questions, analogies and metaphors and practical exercises, looking for the most appropriate method for each student. Personally, I find it easier to learn new ideas when I have clear motivation and I often find this helps my students too, using ideas from physics, social science or everyday life.
