I offer tuition at all levels, from beginner to advanced, in Voice, Trumpet and Music Theory, teaching from dedicated premises in Lincoln and Leicester. I also offer supplementary teaching for GCSE and A-Level Music.

I am a professional musician based in Lincoln and Leicester. I hold a First Class Music degree from the University of York, and am a recipient of the Stile Antico Foundation Bursary. I divide my time between performance and private teaching. As a soprano, I perform regularly at weddings, events, recitals and concerts, as both a soloist and ensemble singer.

Avalon began her musical education as a chorister at Lincoln Cathedral and music scholar at Lincoln Minster School. During her time as a chorister, she toured abroad to Prague, Haarlem and Loire, recorded on the Guild label (including solo appearances), appeared a number of times on Songs of Praise and BBC Radio 3 broadcasts. A highlight was singing a solo to a packed cathedral with boy band G4. She attended the Royal College of Music Junior Department, studying voice, trumpet, piano and composition. As a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, Avalon took part in the National Festival of Music for Youth and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in a Prom with the Simón Bolívar Orchestra.

From 2012-15 Avalon read music at the University of York, graduating with a First Class Honours. During her time at York, Avalon sang with several choirs including The 24 and The Yorkshire Bach Choir. With The 24, she toured to Serbia, China and Hong Kong, performed on a live BBC broadcast and performed at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. She also soloed with the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble at the Ryedale Festival in a performance of the Monteverdi Vespers. Avalon appeared singing Gesualdo on BBC Radio 3's In Tune. Avalon studies Voice with Veronica Veysey Campbell and Dr Ron Morris, and has attended masterclasses with I Fagiolini, Richard Jackson, Richard Stokes and Mark Meylan.
Avalon regularly performs as a soloist in Handel's Messiah, Bach's St Matthew Passion, Bach's St John Passion, Faure's Requiem, Durufle's Requiem, Bach's Mass in B minor, Bach's Magnificat, Mozart's Requiem, Haydn's Harmoniemesse, Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, Allegri's Miserere, Stravinsky's Mass, Kodaly's Missa Brevis, and Poulenc's Mass in G.

Avalon played Naomi, the evil step-sister, in Massenet's Cendrillon with the University Opera Society, performed Rameau Cantatas with the Helios Ensemble, and played First Witch in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. In 2015, she was privileged to perform Vivaldi's Nulla in mundo pax sincera with a period ensemble, in the presence on Dame Janet Baker.

Avalon is a recipient of Stile Antico's prestigious inaugural bursary for young singers, and will be working closely with them from Autumn 2015. Avalon plans to continue her vocal studies at postgraduate level at conservatoire.

Tutoring Experience

I have well established teaching pool in both Lincoln and Leicester. I offer tutoring to students of all ages and abilities, tailoring my approach to suit the needs of each pupil; this could include graded exams such as ABRSM, preparing for a performance or audition, or simply singing for fun!

To get started I recommend a 30-minute consultation lesson where we would meet and discuss what you are hoping to achieve in your lessons, as well as preferences in style and approach. Consultations are friendly, and really for you to get to know me, and me to get to know you!

Tutoring Approach

I tailor my approach to suit each student, but to begin with, I like to establish a healthy technique, as this allows students greater flexibility of expression and colour, and makes sure they develop good habits!

A typical lesson might include:

  • Finding music to suit your interests and abilities

  • Stretches and vocal warm-ups

  • Understanding vocal health (for singing)

  • Developing good habits in posture and alignment

  • Technical exercises

  • Communication/acting in singing

  • Developing different colours in the voice

  • Polishing a performance

  • Stage etiquette and professionalism

  • Preparing for exams
