Personal Description:

Hi there! My name is Ava I am currently a student and the University of Brighton where I am studying to achieve a bachelors degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Ethics. I plan to go to law school following this and eventually become a qualified and practising attorney. I am an avid reader (tell me about your favourite books!) and a keen writer of both poetry and music. I specialise therefore in tutoring English from Primary to GCSE level having achieved As and A*s across the board in this. As I have mentioned I am a keen musician and hope to bring an engaging and refreshing approach to tutoring!

Tutoring Experience:

I have a wealth of experience working with children and young people in many different settings. I have worked for three years as a group leader at Kingswood Camps (Formerly Camp Beaumont) planning and executing engaging and interactive activities for children and young people. For two years along side this I worked as a junior coach in a local boxing and fitness club which aimed to give vulnerable youth in the local community a stable and safe space as well as giving them a solid skill set in teaching them the basics of boxing. I have experience in a classroom setting having worked as teaching assistant cover as well as having taught English as a foreign language to children aged between 5 and 7 years old on my travels to Port Elizabeth in South Africa for 2 months.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to bring an understanding an adaptable approach to tutoring in order to account for the individual needs and learning styles of each student. I stress the importance of engaging sessions which are aimed directly at tackling self-identified problem areas for the student which may not be being adequately covered in their mainstream teaching. Students are welcome and encouraged to give their own feedback on where they are struggling and self asses their own progress in order to take an active role in their own learning. Of course in order to achieve the highest level of progression I prefer to work in long term and sustained situations to allow for real understanding and continued goals to be met rather than providing what may be a 'quick fix'.
