Personal Description:

I am a fully-qualified teacher with over twenty-five years' teaching experience in French (GCSE to A level), English (GCSE to A level), German (GCSE to A level), Italian (to GCSE) and English as a Foreign Language in the UK and overseas. I am linguist by background and speak 5 languages fluently. When I teach French, German & Italian, I communicate in the target language whenever possible so that students experience full exposure to the language.

In EFL, I have taught to the whole suite of Cambridge examinations (IELTS, CAE, FCE, KET, PET), General English courses as well as English for Academic purposes and English for Business purposes. I have taught the whole spectrum of learners from young beginners to more mature undergraduates and postgraduates at university level.
I am currently teaching GCSE, IGCSE and A level at a sixth form college in the locality.
As I am also a life coach and educational coach with qualifications in NLP and Positive Psychology, I I have good insight into the motivation levels and learning styles of each and every student . I also use the findings from recent research to encourage my students to pinpoint and create pathways towards all their goals both personal and academic.
I have a positive nature and students tell me I am patient and kind. I love teaching and hopefully, my enthusiasm rubs off on my students, encouraging them to achieve the very best grades that they can. By identifying all their learning needs and getting a full picture of their strengths and weaknesses, I am able to offer my students support that is tailored to them as individuals. All students will succeed as long as they believe in themselves and are willing to put in the ‘grit’ of consistent hard work. I expect quite a lot of my students, but once they see that the bar is raised, students generally work hard to meet my expectations and their own.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught in the UK (sixth form college) and overseas (France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Dubai). Throughout my career, I have taught all abilities and levels - from beginners to advanced level students and to a varied age range (from 8 year olds to adults) as well as students of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. I have been a Head of Department, involved amongst other things in preparations for Ofsted inspections, a college lecturer and a writer for Macmillan delivering elessons in English + Life Skills. In Dubai I ran a large-scale personal development program for young Emirati men and have had work published on leadership skills and coaching for young people.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to get to know the student’s world so that I can find approaches and topics that will interest them. I offer a range of learning strategies that students can add to their toolkit. Knowledge of the assessment objectives and confidence in exam techniques are both key to achieving success. I use the appropriate exam board objectives as criteria by which to assess student work and give detailed feedback on all written and oral work. I give extra assistance with revision skills if this is required and often guide students to do wider reading. This is invariably the difference that makes the difference when wanting to move on from an average grade to a top A* grade, so is definitely worth the time and research.

I am a professional and well-organized teacher with excellent rapport skills and subject knowledge. With my background in personal development, I offer a unique approach to English and foreign language tuition.
