I am a Dutch national and have been living in London since 2006. After completing my degree in Law with Criminology, I pursued a Masters in Dispute Resolution and assisted in setting up a mediation unit for the University. Subsequently I completed the Legal Practice Course and am currently working as a paralegal with an in house civil service department.
In addition to academic experience, by working for organisations such as the Legal Services Commission and Legal Aid Agency and volunteering with the Citizens Advice Bureau, I have gained an extensive amount of practical experience across practice areas which I enjoy sharing and applying in my tutoring.
During my final year at University I volunteered in a peer assisted learning scheme where I taught a classroom on reading, writing and referencing in law and equally discussed specific areas of law. My performance allowed me to win the Peer Assisted Teacher of the year award in 2009.
In addition, I have through my own initiative run group sessions with peers and friends in order to benefit from a socratic approach to learning. As I am a practical learner discussing an issue or a problem through with others allows for information to be better absorbed.
My view of learning has helped me shape my approach to tutoring. I like to set objectives early in order to distinguish what the student would like to achieve and how we can best achieve the objective. This further allows for the gratification of achieving objectives and also to reset objectives to ensure growth.
Depending on the area of law and the type of assistance required, I am happy to go through legal concepts, questions and procedures. In addition, I can provide practical exercises and case law which can assist in understanding legal concepts. Finally, I will assist in completing any course works or projects by providing constructive feedback, however please note that I will NOT write the work for you.
I am strongly against plagiarism and would expect the student to do their own work but will be happy to provide support throughout the process.
Finally, as career advice can be varied across the board in respect of a legal professions, I am always happy to discuss or answer any questions you may have on career options and a future in law at any point.
