I am medical student at UCL. I first got involved in tutoring four years ago by mentoring primary school kids from disadvantaged backgrounds to help motivate and inspire them to be able to reach their full potential. The ability to help an individual reach their potential is something I find vastly rewarding. Thus, making me a determined and hardworking tutor to ensure I can bring out the best in my tutee. Then for the past year or so I have been privately tutoring GCSEs.
I have offered tuition services over the past 4 years and would be comfortable teaching students the following:
i. 11 / 13+ tuition: Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning, Mathematics, Science, English
ii. GCSE level: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Social Ethics
iii. A Level : Biology, Chemistry and Maths
iv. Supporting Medical School applications
My belief regarding tutoring is that every individual has a different way of learning so it’s a matter of working with the tutee to explore methods that suit them best. This can either be active learning via questions and doing flash cards, or more auditory with mnemonics and memory tricks, I will adapt to the needs of the student.
I have observed that even when students have understood the underlying concept they might not always be able to equate that with good exam grades. In this case, I consider it necessary to ensure that the student has a good exam technique, so I am keen to share my exam strategies and experience to help with this issue. Additionally, going through exam questions and quizzes with tutees helps further consolidate these techniques.
