I enjoy the challenges of math and use high level math in my work as senior manager in banking. I will bring my natural passion to practical math to the lessons as I believe that understanding the day to day use of math is key to help overcoming the barriers some kids have toward this subject.
I have completed my first tutoring year with great success as my pupil achieving B level in GCSE math and economics. It was a great work to get this result in the first year of the new GCSE grades and it will greatly help for my tutoring in this year. My two children are in year 9 and 8 and I have supported them through their school years including two years of SATS and high school end of year exams. Through my daily work with math and knowledge of the primary school and GCSEs math curriculum, I am very capable of supporting your child through their math work. To back this all, I have 2:1 degree in Economics and a MBA, which require taking high level of mathematics courses.
I think that math has many daily applications. When children understand those applications (say, how to work out change, how much they need to save off their pocket money to pay for a new game, how big is the football pitch etc) it helps them to be less concerned about math, more confidant with it and eventually improve their understanding of it. So when tutoring I will not just go through boring repetitive exercises but will try and show the children how understanding math helps with many other areas. This will ensure that they keep interested which is key to do well in this subject.
