Information About Armando - Oxford tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Armando:
My name is Armando, I am 33 years old and I am a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at academic level. I have always been passionate about Mathematics in a broad sense, from the rigorous theoretical thinking to its application to real-life oriented problems. I love the way how many phenomena can be described by the language of Mathematics, even those that are more unusual.
I have a true passion in teaching Mathematics at different levels, from primary School to postgraduate level. I do not support the anecdotal belief that only a portion of selected people have a natural bent for the Mathematical thinking, but I strongly believe that everyone can develop effective Matematical skills, although at different levels.
I like learning new languages, practice sports, and play with friends, with a preference for games that require a deductive reasoning.
I have been teaching Mathematics in Universities since 2012 and I am currently module leader of 3 courses since September 2015. I have also a wide experience in private tutoring that started during my undergraduate studies in 2005. In the following you can find a list of my past experiences.
Mar 2014 – Sep 2015: Italian tutor in a Language school, Bristol.
Sep 2013 – Mar 2014: Mathematics, Degree in Architecture, Syracuse, University
Sep 2013 – Mar 2014: Mathematics, Degree in Biological Sciences, University
Jan 2012– Aug 2013: Mathematics in a Secondary School, Catania, Italy.
Sep 2012 – Mar 2013: Numerical Analysis, Master degree in Mathematics, University of
Sep 2012 - Mar 2013: Mathematics, Degree in Biological Sciences, University
Sep 2011-Sep 2012: Mathematics in a Secondary School, Catania, Italy.
Sep 2006 - Mar 2007: Tutorial in Algebra 1, Degree in Mathematics, University
My philosophy is based on leaving students thinking on specific problems rather than explaining them completely, since my goal is teaching to find solutions more than teaching solutions themselves. I would achieve this goal by using problem solving and learning-by-doing methods, and ensuring that each lesson is targeted on continuous interactions with the tutee. I can combine my natural inclination on teaching scientific subjects with the key competences acquired in 2013 during the one year pedagogic courses for the Italian teaching qualification for secondary level, and in 2015 during the course to achieve the postgraduate certificate for teaching in higher education.
I have always aimed at practicing my emotional intelligence, trying to understand the emotional status of the students, and, with a reasonable empathy, I have often been able to regulate my emotions accordingly. At the same time, I captured how others felt and molded, as a consequence, the emotional state of my organisation.
I am a friendly, calm and patient tutor that really loves teaching in a comfortable, positive and supporting ambience. I encourage you to participate actively to the lesson, and, according to the purpose, I promote activities and practical exercises focused on your needs. I do not prefer explaining concepts using only schematic structures, but I try to understand your main needs and gaps and I tail the lessons to your specific learning processes.
