Personal Description:

Recently, I have completed a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at St George’s, University of London, where I achieved a 2:1. Following this, I am continuing my studies as I begin a medical degree, starting in September. I seek part time employment to work as a private tutor in biology, chemistry and mathematics at the Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and GCSE levels of education. I am a highly organised and motivated person as I balanced my studies with playing rugby to a high level at university and maintaining part time jobs while at university.

Tutoring Experience:

I haven't done formal tutoring before. Informally, I have helped to run revision sessions for my fellow course mates and students in the lower years at university. I thoroughly enjoyed these sessions. I am a social person and enjoyed interacting with different people while teaching and the satisfying feeling that comes with helping someone understand a certain concept. I have developed my communication skills, a key skill in teaching, by running rugby coaching sessions and as the treasurer of the university rugby team. This role includes managing the finances of the rugby club, liaising with executive figures within the student’s union on behalf of the rugby club and to have a supporting role in the organisation of different events throughout the year. These roles have bolstered my ability my organisational skills, an essential part of teaching I feel is needed to prepare for lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe that is important is to connect with the tutee and approach the tutee with patience and openness. The reason for this is to give the tutee greater confidence in their own ability so that they believe that they can learn new concepts and facts. I treat tutoring as a means of supplementing the teaching they receive at school, to bolster what they learn at school and to tailor specific weaknesses that the tutee has with respect to the syllabus.
