Testimonial:
"My daughter's first (tuition) session was refreshing to see. I was in awe of Anu's delivery. She simplified the subject for my daughter and she came out feeling more confident. My daughter could not thank me enough for picking the 'perfect tutor' for her. She feels confident about English after every session. I can confidently report that I have seen great progress in her [weak] areas. Aside from the progress, my daughter feels more confident about a subject she dreaded so much until Anu came into the picture. Anu is that tutor you want to keep in contact with for when you need support for your children. I can't wait for my second daughter to start with Anu in the near future."

I am currently teaching at the University of York and pursuing a mid-career PhD in the Philosophy of Education on a full scholarship. I have also taught at GCSE and A Levels at both public and private schools.

My research is on how to encourage and facilitate a love for learning. I have been invited to present papers at conferences in America, the UK, Singapore, Lithuania and Australia.

I was also the Head of Education and Children's Programming at an award-winning arts venue called Summerhall for 4 years. This gave me wonderful perspectives on applying pedagogical principles outside the school system to inspire and encourage creative thinking and a love for learning.

I have always tutored alongside working or pursuing higher education because I love teaching.

Tutoring Experience

Fully trained secondary school teacher with a National Institution of Education Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

I have had a total of 8 years of experience teaching at the GCSE, A Levels, IB and university levels at both independent and state schools in the UK, Australia and Singapore. I have also had a total of 10 years of tutoring experience.

I have also written national curriculum (A Levels), been trained by A Level Cambridge markers on exam assessment, and have experience training teachers (A level curriculum) in Singapore. Singapore's education system has consistently been ranked number 1 in the world in the official OECD world rankings for education.

In addition to this, I have presented character, personal and leadership development workshops in Singapore and the UK.

Consistently ranked within the top 2 tiers for national teaching assessment (2004-2008)

Nominated for university-wide teaching award 2015.

'My seminar tutor (Anu) was able to give me useful and detailed feedback on my work, and how I could improve on my analytical skills. '

'Ethics is the only module that’s really interested me to I may look at degrees in philosophy, and I wanted to say thank you so much for the amazing seminars, I looked forward to them every week.'

Tutoring Approach

I take both a practical and inspirational approach to teaching. I use past exam questions and practice papers and believe in close textual reading, assignments and constructive, formative feedback. However, I also aim to support students to see the value in making their own meaning and connections to what they're learning.

Additionally, I believe that different students require different teaching approaches and this is something that is perhaps less possible in the school classroom than it is in one-to-one tutoring. In line with this, I aim to tailor my approach to the student's abilities and the gaps in their skills.
