This is how 3 referees rated Antony:
I am a friendly person with and outward going nature. I enjoy firstly my subject and secondly helping pupils to achieve their true potential goal. I am an enthusiastic person with a love of the history of mathematics, an area that helps make sense of some of the most difficult areas (after all mathematics was invented for a reason). I enjoy cricket and skiing (when I can).
Oh apoligies for the photo it's the only one I had, please don't be put off!!
I have been a secondary teacher for 20 years, a second in department for 5 years and am currently the head of department at Moor End Academy, part of the Pennine Alliance.
In addition to teaching GCSE and Functional skills maths, I have also been teaching A-Level mathematics (Core and Mechanics) and further mathematics. As such I am fully versed in the current changes within GCSE with the 1 to 9 system.
I have been a private tutor for over 10 years, tutoring GCSE and A level. All of the pupils I have tutored have succeeded in their examinations achieving higher grades than predicted by their schools.Four years ago I also tutored 9 teaching assistants for Manchester Education, to pass their mathematics examinations.
I am fully conversant with the new 1-9 GCSE system and levels, plus the added responsibility of taking the new 3 paper.
My approach to tutoring is lead by giving pupils the confidence that every one can succeed at mathematics. I try and put the subject the pupils "ball park" by giving alternate methods to help with a better understanding of the subject. I adopt a calm and meticulous approach to my tutoring giving the pupil confidence in their ability and helping them achieve their true potential. I use my own resources and ICT, together with past papers where required to enhance the learning experience. It has often been commented upon that I make things so easy. Please see my references from past tutees.

I just want to thank you once again for your help. The methods you taught me ensured I passed my ATPL mathematics examination. Thank you for being so flelxible and constructing maths tests to a curriculum you had never seen before, for me. The tricks you taught me were worth their weight in gold as they sped up my mathematic ability. I also appreciate the fact you gave up your own time on a weekend (the day before my exam) to ensure I was thoroughly prepared.
I would definitely recommend you to anyone seeking tuition because of your flexibility, your friendly nature and ability to provide alternative ways of solving mathematic problems.
Well done Tony, keep up the great work. It's a real pity you don't teach the other subjects my son needs help with.
I would definitely recommend.
Again it was a pleasure.
