Personal Description:

I am a 28 year old PGDE graduate in Technological Education from The University of Strathclyde and I am currently a Design Technology teacher for Stirling Council. This encompasses all types of subjects including Graphic Communications, Design and Manufacture and CAD (Computer-Aided Drawing) which includes AutoDesk Inventor.

Prior to this, I completed a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management at Glasgow Caledonian University where my areas of interest included; Construction Technology, Facilities and Project Management, Construction Engineering and Sustainability.

These subjects are transferable to school work, with areas such as sustainability becoming more prominent in the design and manufacture field, with construction engineering also requiring a strong level of understanding and accuracy.

Becoming a teacher has been a lifelong ambition of mines, as such, I enjoy tutoring students and helping them overcome any difficulties that they may face in their subjects.

Tutoring Experience:

I began my teaching career in August 2013 in Stirling Council. At the end of the year I was able to secure a post to continue working with the council. I teach a variety of subjects including; Graphic Communication, Design and Manufacture, Practical Craft skills and Engineering Science.

Each of these subjects provides it's own challenges for students. As such, it is my responsibility to engage them in the subjects and provide meaningful learning whilst in my classes.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different, as such, my approach to tutoring will vary from student to student. I aim to provide the student with a deep understanding of their chosen subject which will stand them in good stead should they wish to move up to the next level of the subject.

I believe the best way to learn is to put what is being taught into context. This allows the student to see a real life, working example of the problem and solution which I believe greatly helps with the learning process.

I will encourage self reflective learning, in that, I will assist the student in identifying their strengths and weaknesses, as this will allow us to tackle them effectively. By doing this it will set the student up for their own learning in the future as I believe that being able to be honest with yourself plays a big part in the learning process.

I take a different approach to tutoring than I do towards teaching. This is because in a 1 on 1 situation we can focus more on the needs of the tutee and can take a more concentrated approach to areas of difficulty.
