I have been teaching since I left music college. I have high standards and expect my pupils to work hard. However I also have an excellent sense of humour and empathy and I have taught pupils from 5 years to 65!!
My specialism is music and/ or special needs. I play in 2 orchestras, 3 bands and at my local church where I am also a deacon. My whole family is musical. I also enjoy art and reading as well as keeping fit.
I have over 22 years experience teaching children with SEN. I specialise in helping children who may be Dyslexic and with children in the Autism spectrum. I have taught piano, cello and double bass too, with many cello pupils achieving grade 8 and beyond. Piano I teach up to grade 5. I have taught double bass to grade 4 and violin to grade 3.
As part of the curriculum I gave taught RE but being a Christian I am more than happy to spread the good news of Jesus.
I use visual, aural and kinaesthetic approaches wherever possible as everyone learns in a different way. I like to use humour as this helps to calm nerves and enhances learning. I use Ruth Miskin resources for Dyslexia tuition and the PECs system for children with Autism amongst many other things.
For music I have a huge knowledge of all kinds of music from classical to modern, rock to folk and world music.
