I am an experienced fully qualified teacher with specialist knowledge of the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy skills. I am also experienced at teaching English Language and Literature to GCSE level.I also have extensive experience of developing basic/functional skills working with children and adults who have additional and/or special needs including those with Dyslexia; those who are on the Autistic Spectrum and those who have challenging behaviour.
I have a good sense of humour and have always been able to develop a very good rapport with tutees. I am patient and calm and always aim through taking a positive approach, to develop self confidence and esteem - if you believe you can achieve - you will and excellent progress usually follows.
I am fully qualified primary teacher, former assistant & acting Headteacher and Special Needs Co-ordinator. I am a marker of test papers for NFER. I have been a private tutor for ten years. I teach Mathematics and English (Language and Literature) from early primary age through to GCSE. I also teach ESOL. I tutor children and young people with Dyslexia, who are on Autistic Spectrum and have associated emotional and behavioural difficulties. As well as tutoring those who attend school I also am supporting and teaching children who are being home schooled. I teach young people and adults basic functional skills and also exam skills.
I take account of the learning style of each individual tutee and use my own knowledge and expertise to tailor programmes of learning to the areas that they need support in developing. I make the learning fun and interesting using the wide repertoire of skills I have developed and also use a computer when appropriate.
Where possible I like to liaise with the childs teacher (if at school) to ensure that the learning I plan complements the learning taking place at school and helps the reaching of targets set. I give accurate feedback and assessment information to both the child and parents/carers.
