I offer in person tuition in Maths and English at primary level. After a career break as a primary school teacher I returned to teaching as a tutor and I am thoroughly enjoying the rewards of seeing my tutees making progress and gaining confidence. About half of my new tutees come to me as a result of recommendations from parents of previous tutees.
My son used to have some difficulty both with Maths and reading comprehension when he was younger and I used to support him with these areas. This experience helped me develop a deeper understanding of the challenges and frustrations children can experience and how to overcome them.
I am a qualified primary school teacher with 8 years' experience. In 2002 I took a career break to have a family, and returned to teaching as a personal tutor in 2016.
My aim is to make lessons relaxed and fun as well as productive. My priorities are to help my tutees feel at ease, and make lessons relevant to their individual needs, interests and personalities. In order to build self-esteem it is essential to assess their needs carefully from the outset, find the gaps in their knowledge and skills, and develop their learning on a firm foundation. I use the National Curriculum as a benchmark and I have a wide range of resources and activities to enable me to approach learning in a variety of ways. I incorporate plenty of revision and assessment activities throughout the programme of lessons. After each lesson I always take time to give feedback to parents.
