My name is Anika and I am native Cantonese speaking girl who has been living in the UK since I was 10 years old. I speak fluent English and can understand intermediate Mandarin. My experience in the UK helped me to explore my mother language becasue I always find it intimates when other speaks to me in Cantonese and I wish I could extend this sort of closeness to everyone I can possibly meet.
I am currently undertaking my PhD in MMU. My project focused to incoporate plant sterol ester in nanoemulsion and use it as a functional ingredient to fortify common dairy or other possible food vehicle like juice or tea. The PhD interests me a lot because my family has a history of heart problem and plant sterol ester is a material to help to trackle this problem.
I would describe myself as a focus and fun character. I enjoy to be surrounded by friend but I also enjoy alone time. I like listening to music and travelling in my leisure time to relax myself and expand my cultural understanding through my eyes. I always treasure the time spending with my family, especially my two years old nephew who always made me laugh when I talk to him in Cantonese.
I have been volunteering in Blackpool Chinese Sundau School as a Cantonese tutor for five years. I have developed a range of interactive teaching techniques that helped most British Born Chinese kids to be able to speak Cantonese.
I completed my Level 2 Community Interpreting in Manchester Chinese Centre and received a certificate. I am currently working as a freelance Chinese and English interpreter in clinical setting as well as council appointment. On speical occasion like Chinese New Year, I volunteer in the school to help out and the centre in promoting the Chinese culture in Manchester China Town.
I can be flexible on how to tutor potential tutees. I can prepare my own lesson plan if you wish to follow the way I do or you can instruct me the topic you are interested to know so I can adapt accordingly to meet your need. If you have a plan for me to follow, I am more than happy to have look and have a mini discussion before any confirmation of session.
