Information About Angela - Newbury tutor - (2 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Angela:
I am a hugely experienced and highly skilled ('outstanding') teacher who tutors full-time and consistently coaxes more out of tutees than they ever thought possible. I am passionate about helping the individual child to fulfill his or her potential. Having graduated from Durham; trained as a teacher in Liverpool; taught full-time at secondary and primary level for over 20 years; and tutored full-time for 8 years, I am more than equipped to provide individually tailored, effective and highly enjoyable tuition in a warm but disciplined way. I have experienced winning academic prizes and struggling to walk and talk after meningitis (I recovered fully), so I know what it's like to be bored at the top and bewildered at the bottom of the class. I love the theatre (watching, performing (Sir Andrew Aguecheek in an all girls' school!), occasionally writing and directing) and singing (mainly in church). I absolutely love the sea. I like visiting beautiful gardens but producing one eludes me; green-fingered I most certainly am not! However, it gives me great joy to help children to blossom.
Fully qualified: BA (Durham) , PGCE (distinction; Liverpool Hope University))
Highly experienced, having taught pupils (aged 5 to 18) in state and independent schools, full-time, for over 20 years and having tutored individual students (aged 8 to 17) in Spelling and Reading; English (up to Higher Level as was GCSE); Maths (up to Foundation Level as was GCSE); and CE (11+, 12+ and 13+) full-time for 8 years. Judged outstanding by OFSTED, I have moved GCSE tutees from D/E to B (English Lang and Lit) and from E to high C (Foundation Level Maths). Spelling/reading ages go up by 2 or 3 years after 15 to 40 hours' tuition. CE entrants gain entry into their preferred school. Struggling children become relaxed, confident and happy. Under-achievers are challenged. Switched-off teenagers wake up and engage. We laugh a lot!

|Tutees Providing Positive Feedback:|
Angela has been working with my son for 18 months. In that time, my son has gone from lacking confidence in his abilities, his exam grades were in the mid to late 40s, to gaining 80% in his Mock CE exams - this is a fantastic achievement and is as a result of the exemplary teaching with Angela has provided.
Angela is a thorough teacher, with a no-nonsense attitude. Not only has Angela provided a strong backbone and structure to my son's Maths teaching, she has also built his up his confidence, dispelled the complexity behind examinations and made him really sit up an take notice of the way he is responding to the examinations. I am delighted that her clear teaching and constant reassurance has increased my son's overall abilities in Maths, but also has helped him to ensure that no empty marks are left behind in the exam, which has had a positive increase across all subjects.
I would highly recommend Angela to any parent looking for a strong Maths and English teacher willing to invest the time to deliver the results and would be happy to discuss her work in person should this help.
