I am a hugely experienced and highly skilled ('outstanding') teacher who tutors full-time and consistently coaxes more out of tutees than they ever thought possible. I am passionate about helping the individual child to fulfill his or her potential. Having graduated from Durham; trained as a teacher in Liverpool; taught full-time at secondary and primary level for over 20 years; and tutored full-time for 10 years, I am more than equipped to provide individually tailored, effective and highly enjoyable tuition in a warm but disciplined way. I have experienced winning academic prizes and struggling to walk and talk after meningitis (I recovered fully), so I know what it's like to Removed bored at the top and bewildered at the bottom of the class. I love the theatre (watching, performing (Sir Andrew Aguecheek in an all girls' school!), occasionally writing and directing) and singing (mainly in church). I absolutely love the sea. I like visiting beautiful gardens but producing one eludes me; green-fingered I most certainly am not! However, it gives me great joy to help children to blossom.
Fully qualified: BA (Durham) , PGCE (distinction; Liverpool Hope University))
Highly experienced, having taught pupils (aged 5 to 18) in state and independent schools, full-time, for over 20 years and having tutored individual students (aged 8 to 17) in Spelling and Reading; English (up to Higher Level as was GCSE); Maths (up to Foundation Level as was GCSE); and CE (11+, 12+ and 13+) full-time for 10 years. Judged outstanding by OFSTED, I have moved GCSE tutees from D/E to B (English Lang and Lit) and from E to high C (Foundation Level Maths). Spelling/reading ages go up by 2 or 3 years after 15 to 40 hours' tuition. CE entrants gain entry into their preferred school. Struggling children become relaxed, confident and happy. Under-achievers are challenged. Switched-off teenagers wake up and engage. We laugh a lot!
