Personal Description:

I am a graduate from Nottingham University and more recently the London Music School. I have also achieved outstanding academic grades in the core subjects that I am offering so I am able to provide specialised tuition in Maths and English. I also provide focused Entrance Exams tuition for students seeking entrance into competitive schools. I also have experience and expertise teaching English as a foreign language. I am also able to help with general subjects and homework help. I am laid back and easy to get along with and enjoy working with young people. I live in London and enjoy playing sport. I relish the opportunity that my education has given me to help others to achieve their potential.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring for a few years and have discovered that I have a natural ability to pass on information to a student in a way that will make them understand the most important elements of the subject.

I also spent a summer in Africa teaching piano to children in a boarding school. During my time teaching in London and abroad I discovered that I have a natural ability to discern whether a student really understands what is being taught or if they have just given a correct answer without full understanding - This principle is at the heart of everything I do as a tutor.

My teaching experience in Africa was to small groups which ald me to develop my ability to work out the most appropriate way to teach each individual student. I believe this is an essential skill for one-on-one tuition. For the last few years in London I have taught all ages and abilities, and have had great success. I have received outstanding feedback from the previous parents/tutees that I have worked with, and I am very proud of my 100% track record of 5/5 star feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

There is no such thing as 'I can't do it' or 'this is impossible' - all subjects can be daunting when a student loses interest and convinces themselves it is too hard for them, but once they realise that through a firm understanding of the fundamentals they can take on the more complex challenges, they will begin to see some progress and success, and with that comes the motivation to continue and to go for the highest grade possible. One of my main goals as a tutor is to allow the student to realise it themselves that they truly can do it and the subject can be rewarding and enjoyable, and with this new self belief, continue to study in their own time.

My approach is to first establish the student's goals, be it to pass an exam or achieve a higher grade, or simply to improve and get the most out of their potential. Then I will proceed to teach in an appropriate manner so as to allow the student to fulfil their goals. My teaching philosophy involves simplifying the problem to a level where the student understands it and then allowing them to discover themselves how this fits back into the bigger picture. This allows them to develop understanding of the issue in their own way, a much more effective way of learning and retaining information. I believe this method works because everybody learns in different ways, my method is to find what works best for each individual. I will teach in such a way that the response to tasks requires the student to display full understanding when they ultimately arrive at the correct answer - which is what will allow them to solve the problem themselves without assistance in the future.
