Currently only offering online tuition. I am a fully qualified mathematics teacher with over 16 years experience.
I take on a maximum of 16hrs of tuition each week and I offer a free taster session to ensure that both the student and myself are comfortable working together.
I have a 1st Class Degree, PGCE, QTS, I am enrolled in the PVG scheme administered by Disclosure Scotland which is a direct equivalent to the DBS scheme and have experience in both traditional and training schools in the independent and state sectors. I also work with local authorities to support their Virtual Learning initiatives, tutoring students out of the classroom environment. I work with all abilities from 11yrs to 18yrs and have been successfully tutoring for many years.
*CRB is now known as a DBS - A Criminal Record Check at Enhanced Disclosure level, often referred to as a Enhanced DBS, is the highest level required for positions that can involve caring for, training, supervising or being in sole charge of children or vulnerable adults.
I follow a coaching approach, working at the speed of the individual, addressing weaknesses and increasing confidence and ability. I prefer to work intensely and suggest two 30 or 40 min sessions each week spread out rather than hour long sessions. Students seem to prefer this arrangenment and it is certainly more effective.
I specialise in helping students prepare for their Mock and Public examinations. Working through examples of the core questions and developing the lesson to ensure they understand the topic while focusing on exam techniques.
Online Tutoring
Once a student is registered with me I am able to offer online tuition.
I use a pen-enabled laptop and document camera to provide real time display of questions, answers and explanations to deliver an effective tutoring session.
To take advantage of this technology a student needs a computer with connected microphone and an internet connection. There is no requirement for a video connection from the student to the tutor.
This approach is proving popular with many students – Online lessons allow me to offer shorter sessions more frequently and at a reduced rate.
Some other references from online tuition:
James studying A level maths: “James says he really enjoyed your lessons prior to his C3 mock. He has requested more time over Easter and during his study leave. He would like quite a lot of lessons, so I hope this is ok? Best wishes J.”
Charlotte AS maths: “I was initially a little nervous about the online lessons but being able to book several one hour sessions spread throughout the week proved to be really helpful. I am so pleased with my result, thank-you.”
