I am a highly qualified teacher of English (language and literature) with more than 25 years' experience in the profession. I have a PhD in English literature and have been an AQA examiner for English Language A level. I hold Qualified Teacher Status in the UK and the Trinity College Certificate for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I have experience in publications and communications and other international business and am a published writer. You will find me professional, friendly, empathetic, encouraging and committed to helping you learn in the way that is best for you.
I have taught at university, in secondary schools (including the independent sector) and as a private tutor. I have an excellent record in preparing students for examination (in particular at GCSE and A Level) and for university entrance (including Oxbridge). I am experienced in providing learning support and help with study skills (including verbal and non-verbal reasoning) and am well placed to serve those seeking entrance to independent schools. To speakers of other languages, I regularly teach General and Business English and English for exams (such as the FCE, IELTS and CAE).
You are assured a warm, cheerful welcome. I have good listening skills and am aware that we all have different learning styles that require different approaches. Teaching will be tailored to your individual needs and concentrated on encouraging you to learn in a context that is supportive, respectful and enabling.
