I am a highly experienced English teacher who specialises in A Level English Language tuition. I have spent over 30 years successfully preparing students for A Level English in secondary schools and colleges and until recently have been teaching at one of the highest performing sixth form colleges in the country. I am friendly and approachable but also highly professional and committed to getting the best out of each student. This can only be achieved by engaging students with enthusiasm and interest - encouraging, motivating and supporting them to achieve their potential.
I believe English Language is a fascinating subject and my aim as a tutor is to help to convey this to my tutees so they too will find it both enjoyable and rewarding. However, the skills, knowledge and understanding needed for A Level English Language (eg Child Language Acquisition, Language Change and Diversity, Grammar, Phonology, Language Investigation, etc) are quite demanding and in my view a specialist tutor who knows the course and the exam inside out is best positioned to help build a tutee’s confidence and success.
I have a first-class honours degree in English, an MA in Modern English and a PGCE. For the last 17 years of teaching I have been specialising in A Level English Language and have also written articles on topics related to English Language for emagazine (a highly respected quarterly magazine directed at A Level English students).
As an English teacher in both schools and sixth form colleges, I have not only been a class teacher but also worked with students on a one-to-one basis. I have always believed that it is by responding to students as individuals, engaging with their individual needs and aspirations that learning becomes most enjoyable, productive and rewarding. I have taught A Level English Language for many years and am up-to-date with the latest changes to A Level Specifications as well as having a wealth of learning resources and approaches.
My approach is to quickly identify the individual needs of the tutee and devise a personalised approach to help nurture confidence and enjoyment in the subject, and to prepare rigorously for the exam.
The first lesson will be half price and will provide an opportunity to discuss and assess the individual needs and aspirations of the tutee and to identify the most suitable approaches.
