Personal Description:

I am currently a Masters student at the University of Kent, studying Biochemistry. I can offer science and maths tutoring to a range of age groups and skill sets, from those wanting to top up a A grade to an A*, to students needing extra help to pass their exams. Whilst my main skill set lies in Biology, I am comfortable with mathematics, Physics and chemistry as well as both the double and triple science award for GCSE students

Tutoring Experience:

During my Masters degree, I have taken part in several out reach programs, most notable the MBP squared project, where I have been going into the Simon Langton Boys school, and leading a group of students though an extended biology project. I have received positive feed back from the students, and the technical who was helping out

I have also been demonstrating for undergraduates in practical lab sessions. During this session, I often have to lead the students thought the theoretical side of the task at hand. My approach is to help them come to the correct answer, rather than simply directly telling them. This also allows me to build a rapport with the students, which helps them relax, and feel the confidence to ask for hep when they are stuck.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that each student is unique, and responds to a different method of teaching: some respond well to a nurturing approach, with lots of positive constructive feedback, whilst others need a firm no-nonsense approach. There is also any SEN that have to be taken into account. For this reason, I like to build a rapport with a student over a few regular sessions, and tailor my tutoring methods to their individual needs.
However, for every student the key to any successful method is to enthuses the student about the topic.I find that an enthusiastic tutor leads to a productive and enthusiastic student
