Maths and Spanish Tutoring in Norwich

I am Aero & Themal Test & Development Engineer at Lotus Cars. I started off as a Graduate Engineer as soon as I finished my studies at Coventry University. I am someone who has always had a passion for cars and driving which is why I pursued this career. During my university I acquired a race car and an entrepreneurial mindset. My friends would best describe me as being understanding, having a positive outlook on every situation and enthusiasm in everything I do.

In my spare time i like to drift at track events as i find it helps engage everyone from different backgrounds in the community. I believe its because it brings an element of curiosity and enjoyment. The thing i love most is being able to share the experience to others who have never had the opportunity and giving them a sense of inspiration by showing them it can be achieved by anyone who really wants it.

Tutoring Experience

I tried tutoring once in my second year of university and it went well. I did it for some extra money in my spare time and ended up bonding well with the student and the parent. Although it was my first time, they always gave me positive feedback and trusted my approach to teaching. I also have a younger brother who is not in year 8 of secondary school and i regularly help him out with homework and teach him good approaches to do his best at learning.

After my first year at university i signed up to work for an enterprise which taught leadership and entrepreneurial skills by working for a charity. In this i learnt how to engage and carry out conversations with strangers as it lasted for 3 months. This is what i believe makes me good at trying to teach and relating to others.

Tutoring Approach

Through my work experiences and people i surround myself with, i learnt that to teach someone requires a lot of patience and a positive mindset. I learnt this through my younger brother as well. Fortunately, i understand this as i have been on the other side of the table, having numerous tutors throughout my childhood.

To help someone in a subject i always try to get to know them a little by spending a few minutes asking them what they enjoy doing in their spare time and if they aspire to be someone when they grow up. This is an opportunity for me to share any personal experiences and to also tell them that if they have a dream they should chase it and not let anyone else tell them otherwise. My achievements speak for them selves as i believe actions are stronger than words. The aim is to make them feel more relaxed and comfortable to ask questions.

I then ask them what it is specifically they have trouble with and i keep asking questions until i find the root of the problem. If i cant find the root of the problem i would set some questions for the student and assess how well and quickly they can answer them. This would help me give an idea of what level they are at. After this i would set out a rough plan for every tutoring session i have with the student to help them on subjects they struggle with but at the same time monitor them to see if they struggle too much or find it easy. After setting the student homework for the next session, i always consult the parent or guardian so they understand what their tasks are and maybe suggest ways in which they can be helped at home such as a clear desk or how to keep distractions to a minimum to help them concentrate.
