Hi, my name is Amy and I teach Psychology A-level at Peter Symonds College. I've studied Psychology at degree level because I am passionate about the subject. I trained as a teacher a couple of years later because I realised that I wanted to share my love of the subject with others. I enjoy teaching Psychology A-level as I find it rewarding to see others learn to understand and love a subject that I find so fascinating. I also enjoy helping people to achieve the best they can, and enjoy the one-to-one aspects of teaching as I feel one-to-one time gives such valuable support, and enables all learners to express themselves and to extend their knowledge and understanding, as well as their enjoyment of the subject.
I currently teach Psychology A-level (AQA), both years 1 and 2, at Peter Symonds College. This is my eighth year teaching at Peter Symonds and I really enjoy it. Since having my two children I now work part-time. Previous to my time at Peter Symonds I have taught OCR Psychology AS and A level, to both 16-18 year olds and to adults. I have also taught the Psychology module of Access to Higher Education. I enjoy teaching 16-18 year olds, but I also really enjoyed working with adults, from a range of backgrounds, and I hope to continue this again in the future. I have also taught Adult Literacy classes.
My approach to tutoring is primarily learner-led; the first meeting would be to discuss what it is you need from a tutor and we would go from there. I think a huge part of being successful at A-level is knowing how to apply content to the exam and to have highly developed skills in both essay-writing, and in techniques for shorter-answer questions. It may be that we spend a tutor session going over a new topic each time or we may focus on exam skills, revision, application, or whatever would be most helpful.
