Personal Description:

I am a classically trained double bassist with a BA (musical studies) and a singer songwriter having released 5 albums, my most recent album Cycles of Life was released on Linn Records in 2013 and I have new album coming out later this year. I compose my own string arrangements for my songs and play bass on my recordings. I play piano and guitar to accompany my songs.

I have a great deal of performance and teaching experience and feel I have a lot to offer pupils.

Tutoring Experience:

Would you like to learn the double bass, or brush up on your technique ?
I am an experienced double bassist having studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Conservatoire.
I have been teaching for 10 years now and offer a solid grounding in all aspects of the double bass technique, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

I have been enjoying teaching piano for 3 years and have experience in leading up to the ABRSM and Trintiy exams, with excellent results. I cycle to pupils homes to teach, depending on the area or the pupil comes to me.

I am an experienced singer/songwriter, regularly performing my own music throughout Scotland and internationally. I have a great deal of experience singing live, and have just started to teach singing. I can include songwriting techniques if required.

Please contact me for more information - looking forward to hearing from you.

Tutoring Approach:

It is important to me to create a good rapport with the pupil and lessons are always relaxed and enjoyable.

For double bass beginners I usually start with the Simandl Method - a methodical approach to learning the technique. I focus on establishing good left hand shape and bowing technique.

For piano pupils I teach using the Piano Adventures books, which are fun and encouraging for beginners. Pupils usually make quick progress using this method. I have experience with leading up to ABRSM exams.

I offer practice techniques and music theory. The lessons are always in tune with what the individuality of the pupil.
