I am passionate about Literature, the English language and learning in general. I very much enjoy teaching students of all ages and abilities and really love to see their understanding and confidence develop during our time together.
I am an English and Media Studies teacher with 11 years experience of teaching GCSE and A Level in secondary schools in Bristol, Somerset and Devon. I have been graded as an ‘outstanding’ teacher consistently throughout my career and have also served as Head of Department. With the recent changes in the GCSE syllabus, a clear and thorough understanding of the exam is essential. I have been teaching the new 1-9 English syllabus for the last 2 years and am also an exam assessor, giving me a deep insight into what skills and understanding are necessary in order to achieve your maximum potential in English. In addition to GCSE and A Level, I have tutored primary school pupils and university students and I also offer 11+ preparation.
Sessions take place in the comfort of your home and will be tailored to meet your individual needs, whether you need to improve specific skills, make quicker progress, or just require a boost in confidence. I will assess your performance in the subject, where appropriate liaising with your teachers, and together we will identify areas to focus on. I will then create a bespoke learning plan that will address those areas. For younger students, sessions are made as engaging and fun as possible, incorporating games and a sense of competition. Older students who are preparing for examinations will be given individual support in working through carefully prepared resources that will help them to perform effectively in their assessments. Online tutoring via Skype can also be arranged, but this is not always suitable so can only take place after consultation.
